What does representation mean?

One of the sole purposes in which our country was founded was our desire to have representation. When America was the British Colonies, the people were heavily taxed and oppressed under the power of the monarchs and nobility of the British Empire. All of that without representation, so we formed the United States and had representation as one of our key foundations for our society. Representation in politics revolves around the idea that everybody has a vote in which they can vote someone to represent their voice in political issues. It is why we have elections for the presidency every four years, and elect new members of congress rapidly. As time goes on, agendas change, and representation allows for voices on many levels to be heard. It is a major foundation for modern democracy, and in modern politics.
